Awwal 10, 1432, Feb 13, 2011, SPA-- A small plane made an emergency belly landing on a Georgia highway then slid into the grass median, witnesses said, according to UPI. A Federal Aviation spokeswoman said two people were aboard the Lancair 320, a two-seat single-engine airplane, when the pilot reported a loss of power, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday. "It's not uncommon for aircraft to land on roadways when they're in distress," Kathleen Bergen said. "It happens more often than people think." A witness said the airplane was heading south and landed at the intersection of Georgia State Route 400 and Dawson Forest Road. "I was at the intersection, stopped at the light and just happened to look overhead," Patti Adams said. "It was like it just dropped out of the sky like a bird." There was no traffic on southbound Ga. 400 at the time, Adams said. Because there was minimal damage and no injuries, the landing would probably be classified as an "incident" rather than an "accident," Bergen said.
