Awwal 10, 1432, Feb 13, 2011, SPA-- Swiss voters appear to have rejected a referendum proposal to tighten the country's gun laws, computer projections showed after polls closed Sunday. Latest projections showed 60 per cent of voters rejecting the so- called "Protection From Weapons Violence" initiative to carry, dpa reported. Besides tighter gun rules, the proposal specifically called for prohibiting Swiss soldiers from being allowed to take their guns home with them, as is currently the case. Switzerland has one of the world's most liberal gun license laws. The country's 8 million people own an estimated 2.5 million guns. Women, in particular, had been pushing for the tighter rules on gun ownership in Switzerland.
