Awwal 04, 1432 H/Feb 07, 2011, SPA -- Health Ministers of the member countries of the Riyadh-based Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) today concluded their 36th conference held in the Qatari capital of Doha under the theme "Donations and Organs Implantation". Over five days, the ministers discussed a number of topics relating to promoting cooperation and coordination among GCC members in the preventive and therapical health fields, spreading health awareness among the region's residents, reaching consensus on some important health and scientific concepts, adopting the implementation of joint health projects, evaluating systems and strategies relevant to health care, enhancing successful experiments in the GCC countries and circulating them over the Parties. Also top on the agenda were combating non-contagious illnesses, fighting of cancer and smoking, organs implantation, health illumination and information, making Arab Peninsula malaria free, eradicating polio, unified procurement of medical appliances and providing medical rehabilitation devices. In a final statement, the ministers lauded the project of developing the Gulf Center for Combating Cancer and formation of a consultative Commission for the GCC Center for Combating Cancer. They urged the member states to complete putting national plans to activate the GCC Executive Plan for Combating Cancer 2010 - 2020. Dubai Declaration on Diabetes and non-contagious chronic illnesses 2010 was also approved. According to the statement, the 5th GCC conference for Health Awareness and Information will be held in the Sultanate of Oman at the end of March 2012. The ministers also endorsed Riyadh Declaration on Women and Smoking issued by the Epidemics and Public Health Care at the Faculty of Medicine of King Saud University in Riyadh. The meeting agreed the activation of previous decisions of the GCC on the provision of medical treatment for Yemeni nationals happened to be residing in GCC member countries.
