Awwal 03, 1432 H/Feb 06, 2011, SPA -- A leader of the Ladies in White opposition group says she will urge a colleague to end a 10-day old hunger strike she launched to demand freedom for her jailed husband. Laura Pollan tells The Associated Press the protest could be counterproductive in efforts to gain freedom for the last political prisoners from a 2003 crackdown on dissent. She says she plans to travel to the home of Alejandrina Garcia, near the central city of Matanzas, to deliver the message personally. The Cuban government on Friday released one of the prisoners, and the Catholic church announced another release is imminent. When both are free, it will mean just nine of the activists rounded up in 2003 remain jailed.
