The Japanese football federation confirmed that injured midfielder Shinji Kagawa had left Qatar on Thursday morning after being ruled out of Saturday's final, according to dpa. The Borussia Dortmund player broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot in Tuesday's 3-0 penalty shoot-out semi-final victory against South Korea and will miss the final against Australia. Runaway Bundesliga leaders Dortmund said in a statement on Wednesday that they wanted Kagawa, who has taken the league by storm in his first season in Germany, to return to the country as soon as possible so that he can be examined by club doctors. It is not known at this stage how long Kagawa will be out, but there is speculation that he could miss the remainder of the season. Japan, who are seeking an unprecedented fourth continental title, are already without midfielder Daisuke Matsui, who left Qatar earlier after picking up an injury.
