Following heavy rains on the Province of Jeddah, leading to the rise of water levels in some streets and neighborhoods of the city of Jeddah, Prince Mishaal bin Majed, Governor of Jeddah Province, called the branch Committee for Civil Defense at Jeddah Province for an extraordinary meeting here today. At the outset of the meeting, Prince Mishaal bin Majed, who chaired the meeting, was briefed on the situation through a number of official reports by the concerned authorities. Then, he instructed the joint operation room and all governmental bodies to intensify and double their effort through forming different committees for follow-up, counting, housing, meeting the requirements and needs of the affected people, and report to him about major developments around the clock in addition to reporting to him on the details of the situation every six hours. In a statement following the meeting, Prince Mishaal bin Majed pointed out to the directives of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz, his deputy Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz, the Second Deputy Premier Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz and the Governor of Makkah Region Prince Khalid Al-Faisal to provide every prompt assistance to the needy and the affected. The Governor of Jeddah Province also urged everybody to cooperate and donate what could help alleviate the sufferings of people. He said the concerned committees have already started to provide accommodation and lodging for the needy. He announced that so far 85 cases were evacuated through helicopters and 200 cases through boats, noting that four helicopters are currently engaged in shuttle flights in the air of the city of Jeddah for monitoring, following-up and rescuing.
