The German Government today welcomed the formation of a national coalition government in Tunisia under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Mohammad Al-Ghannouchi. In a statement issued here today, German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle expressed his country's satisfaction over the new Tunisian government's declared intention to release all political prisoners that would facilitate the start of a new political life in Tunisia. Westerwelle affirmed the readiness of Berlin and the European Union to support the new government at all levels and in particular the arrangement to elect a new head of state of Tunisia.
