Five mattress salesmen were shot dead by suspected robbers in the southern Philippines, officials said Tuesday. The vendors were travelling by van in the town of Hadji Muhammad Adjul in Basilan province on Monday, 900 kilometres south of Manila, when two gunmen blocked their way. The gunmen then opened fire, instantly killing the five victims, said Lieutenant Colonel Randolph Cabangbang, a regional military spokesman. The van's driver was wounded and taken to a nearby hospital, according to a report of the German Press Agency "DPA".
