Twenty people were poisoned by carbon monoxide after exhaust gas from a boiler seeped into their homes Thursday night in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the local government said Friday. The victims were still being treated at hospitals in Qitaihe City Friday morning, and all were in stable condition, Xinhua quoted a city government spokesman as saying. The residents lived in an apartment building in Taoshan District. After the gas leak was spotted at around 8 p.m., the local government sent rescuers to every home for safety checks and to provide first-aid to the victims, the official said. He said the cause of the accident was still under investigation.
