An officer said two people have been killed and nine injured during clashes between opposition supporters and police in Tanzania's tourist city of Arusha, AP reported. Police chief Tobias Andegenye said the clashes followed the arrest of opposition leaders. They allegedly defied police orders not to hold demonstrations against the recent election of the city's mayor. Andegenye said two people were killed by gunfire Wednesday after police tried to break up the street demonstration. He said three police were among the nine injured. More than 30 protesters were arrested, but freed on bail Thursday. Wilborad Slaa, the opposition party secretary-general who finished second in the country's October presidential elections, was among those arrested and freed. -- SPA
