Milk cattle farms in five Malaysian states have been affected by the foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), Xinhua quoted the Malaysian Veterinary Services Department as saying on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters in Malaysia's federal administration center here, the department's director general Abdul Aziz Jamaluddin said the states included Kedah, Perak and Terengganu in northern Peninsula Malaysia, and Selangor and Negeri Sembilan in the central part of the peninsula. Abdul Aziz said the Malaysian government had allocated 219 of the 300 milk cows to 56 cattle farms in the country in order to raise the milk production volume. However, the outbreak of the FMD was detected in 46 out of the 56 farms, said Abdul Aziz. While the cows were imported from Australia, Abdul Aziz stressed that the cattle were not infected in Australia, but on their way to Malaysia.
