The International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan (ISAF) today announced the arrest of several militants, including a commander of "Taliban" and a smuggler in the provinces of Zabul and Kandahar. In a statement, ISAF said that Afghan and coalition forces detained an escapee from the Taliban, who was operating in Kandahar with a group of insurgents during a security operation carried out yesterday in the region. It said the smuggler-detainee was responsible for the transfer of explosive materials. In another operation, the forces arrested the commander of "Taliban" in Zabul province yesterday. The coalition forces said he was responsible for the kidnapping of Afghan civilians, adding two gunmen were also arrested.
