Authorities said the U.S. Capitol and all Senate and House buildings were evacuated and fighter jets were scrambled after an airliner flying into Washington's Reagan airport went out of radio contact, AP reported. U.S. Capitol Police spokewoman Sgt. Kimberly Schneider said the plane entered restricted airspace heading towards the U.S. Capitol around 1:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) Saturday. The FAA said Piedmont Airlines Flight 4352 from Hilton Head, South Carolina, lost radio contact with air traffic control as it approached the area. The North American Aerospace Defense Command scrambled F-16 jets out of Andrews Air Force Base. The evacuation order was called off after controllers made contact with the plane and it landed at Reagan. Piedmont is a wholly owned subsidiary of US Airways. Airline spokeswoman Tina Swail said the airline is working with local authorities to investigate the incident.
