Moldova's parliament on Thursday elected Marian Lupu, the leader of the Democratic party, as its speaker, hours after the Democrats agreed to join the ruling alliance. The pro-Western Alliance for European Integration does not have enough votes in parliament to elect a president, and the parliament speaker becomes acting president in such circumstances, according to Reuters.
