One man was detained for illegally storing fireworks in Beijing, which is being blamed for an explosion on Thursday night, police said Friday. The man, surnamed Jin, purchased fireworks for more than 680 yuan at an illegally-operated fireworks store and kept them in his own yard, where the accident happened, Xinhua reported. Police said the blast occurred at 9 p.m. Thursday at the Yiheshanzhuang Residence, Yongfengzhonglu Road, Haidian District, after Jin set off one cracker at the yard, accidentally triggering the igniting of the stored fireworks. The windows in nearby houses shattered and some yard walls collapsed. Falling bricks from collapsed walls damaged some nearby cars, officials said. No casualties were reported.
