A suicide bomber struck at a police checkpoint in northern Afghanistan on Thursday, killing one officer, officials said. According to AP, the attacker detonated his explosives as he was stopped at a checkpoint in the center of Kunduz, said Abdul Rahman Sayedkhaili, the chief of police in Kunduz province. Three civilians were also wounded in the blast. The bombing is the second suicide attack in less than a week in Kunduz city _ a major agricultural and marketing center that controls one of the main highways into neighboring Tajikistan. On Dec. 19, insurgents stormed an army recruitment center in the city, killing four Afghan army soldiers and five police in a daylong gunbattle.
