The total trade volume in UAE free zones amounted to approximately AED 286.6 billion in 2009 of which imports accounted for AED 167.897 billion, while exports and re-exports reached AED 118.7 billion. Accordingly, the total UAE trade volume (non-oil foreign trade and free zones trade) amounted to nearly AED 974 billion in 2009, of which imports hit AED 615.3 billion, while exports and re-exports contributed AED 331.7 billion. The Federal Customs Authority (FCA) announced in a press release today that it has succeeded in creating its first audited statistics database for trade within the State's free zones, according to a report of the UAE news agency "WAM."
