According to the Interfax agency, the ministry said 40 people were injured when all three of the Tu-154 plane's engines failed on takeoff. The plane landed back down harshly onto the runway and then raced along into a field before coming to a halt, as dpa reported. There were 163 passengers and 9 crew on board the plane, which was taking off on a flight to the Dagestan capital Makhachkala. General prosecutor Yuri Tchalka had begun heading a team investigating the crash. Officials at Domodedovo airport said the facility's other air operations continued as normal, with traffic diverted to the airport's second runway.
