Qa'dah 12, 1431, Oct 20, 2010, SPA -- Disaster officials in Thailand say nine people have died from flooding that began over the weekend. The government's Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department says the flooding has affected nearly 4,000 villages in 19 eastern, central and northeastern provinces. Flood runoff from the Central Plains is expected to begin hitting the capital, Bangkok, late Wednesday. There is a possibility of serious flooding there during high tides next week. Bangkok Deputy Gov. Porntep Techaipaibul said Wednesday that officials have prepared more than 4 million sandbags. The Meteorological Department forecasts more heavy rains in the lower central, upper southern and eastern parts of the country, the Associated Press reported.
