The new 2,555-megawatt Rabigh power plant will help the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) meet the growing power demand in the provinces of Makkah and Madinah, said Ali Al-Barrak, CEO of the company. Saleh Al-Awaji, chairman of the SEC's board of directors, on Tuesday signed a SR12.75 billion ($3.4 billion) contract with South Korea's Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction to implement the project, which will be completed within 51 months. "The new plant (Rabigh-6) will have systems to get rid of nitrogen oxide, carbon gases and carbon ashes in order to protect the environment," the CEO was quoted as saying in a report published today by Arab News. The Saudi firm said in a statement Tuesday the project would be financed through a SR15 billion loan the company was given by the government. --MORE
