A latest report issued by The Saudi Electricity Company has disclosed that the costs of the approved projects amounted to about SR 142 billion since the founding of the company in 05/04/2000 until the end of 2008 for generation, transmission, distribution and support sectors in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The report also noted that 50 percent additional capacity would also enter the service during the next three years, involving a capital expenditure of SR 38 billion. Saudi Electricity Company is currently implementing projects worth SR 84 billion in various regions of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in addition to projects with a capacity of 15,000 megawatts that will enter service successively during this year (2010). --MORE The total capacity of electricity in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia increased by 31.4% per cent during the year 2009 in comparison with the previous year in 2008. The total available capacity of the electricity sector amounted to 44,485 MW, and actual capacity of generating power of electricity sector 38680 MW, an increase of 10.6% compared with the previous year with a total production of sold electric energy 274,391 gigawatts/ hour in 2009, an increase of 6.8 / per cent from the previous year in 2008. The number of subscribers by the end of the same year amounted to more than 5.7 million subscribers, up 5.2% from the previous year in 2008.
