A clash between the military and a group of alleged criminals claimed 19 lives on a rural road in northern Mexico, according to news reports Thursday. The clash reportedly happened on Wednesday afternoon in the municipality of General Trevino in the state of Nuevo Leon, 100 kilometres east of the industrial centre of Monterrey, dpa reported. Nuevo Leon Justice officials said that they had been informed of a clash between the military and alleged criminals, near the state boundary with Tamaulipas, close to Ciudad Mier. In that same area, 25 alleged criminals who were at a training camp were killed by the military on September 3, the authorities said. However, there were no further official details of the incident, and the military did not immediately issue a statement. Mexico was holding celebrations Wednesday and Thursday for the bicentennial of its independence.
