Mobs defied a curfew to hold violent protests in India-administered Kashmir on Tuesday, after three more people died in clashes with police, raising the death toll in the unrest to 89. Three protestors died late Monday in Anantnag, Pampore and Sopore towns where mobs attacked security forces who intervened to prevent arson and violence, local police was quoted as saying by DPA. With the latest casualties, a total of 19 people including a policeman were killed on Monday, the deadliest day since unrest began in June. Meanwhile, an indefinite curfew - already in place in state capital Srinagar and major towns - was extended to new areas in the Muslim-majority Kashmir valley to prevent further protests. Despite the tight security restrictions, demonstrators took to the streets on Tuesday in the Zainekot and Baramulla areas around Srinagar and hurled rocks at the security forces. Six protestors were injured as troops fired shots in the air and used tear gas to disperse the mobs. In a related development, authorities cancelled flights to Srinagar for three days, amid fears that protestors could target passengers traveling to the city.
