Egyptian security forces killed a Sudanese migrant and arrested two Eritreans as they tried to cross the country's border with Israel, official media reported on Saturday. Suleiman Yehia Ishaq, 26, was shot after he reportedly ignored a warning call not to cross the border into central Sinai, according to dpa. The Eritreans were arrested while trying to breach the border south of the Rafah crossing. Egyptian border guards frequently arrest African migrants trying to cross illegally into Israel, often to find work. At least 21 African migrants were killed in the first half of 2010, according to statistics provided by Egyptian security. Hundreds more have been arrested. Eight migrants were also killed last month after they clashed with their traffickers. One of the migrants seized a weapon from the smugglers in a bid to escape, after they demanded 2,000 dollars from each migrant instead of 1,000 dollars to let them cross into Israel.
