A strong magnitude-6.1 earthquake hit the same area of Chile that suffered a catastrophic earthquake in February. The earthquake early on Thursday caused alarm but no reported damage or injuries. It struck the regions of Maule, Bio Bio, and Araucani, the same locations where the earlier magnitude-8.8 earthquake caused the most damage. The US Geological Survey said Thursday's earthquake hit around 3:30 in the morning local time (0728 GMT) and was centered about 35 kilometers south of the regional capital of Concepcion, which was heavily damaged in February.
