U.S. health officials are urging everyone to get flu vaccines that promise protection against a swine flu strain and two other kinds of influenza. “Influenza is serious, and anyone, including healthy people, can get the flu and spread the flu,” said Dr. Anne Schuchat of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. “Flu vaccines are the best way to protect yourself and those around you.” During last year's swine flu pandemic, infections peaked before enough vaccines could be produced. But this year, a record vaccine supply is expected, including a high-dose version for people 65 or over.
