A police officer who was wounded during a clash with militants in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan early on Saturday has died in hospital, a police spokesperson said. According to RIA Novosti, five militants were also killed during the special operation in the Karabudakhkent district of Makhachkala, the republic's capital. Another five militants were also killed on Saturday in Nalchik, the capital of the nearby republic of Kabardino-Balkaria, a police source said. The source told RIA Novosti that the militants had been hiding out in a flat in the city. He also said that no police officers were injured in the operation. Militant violence is common in Russia's North Caucasus republics, especially Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia.
