Mexican security forces found a mayor's body near the industrial city of Monterrey on Wednesday days after he was abducted by drug gang members, officials and local media said. Mexican President Felipe Calderon said in an online posting that he was sorry about the “cowardly assassination” of the Mayor Edelmiro Cavazos. “The murder of Edelmiro is an outrage and forces us to redouble our efforts to fight these cowardly criminals,” he said. Cavazos was taken from his home on Sunday night from the town of Santiago. Nuevo Leon state Governor Rodrigo Medina said this week that Cavazos was probably targeted for his efforts to clean up Santiago's corrupt police force.
