Saudi Aramco's Intelligent Fields initiative was selected as the first topic for a new Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Intelligent Energy live seminar on the web, or webinar, series. The webinar was broadcast from Saudi Aramco's Intelligent Field Center recently to a live audience of more than 220 professionals from around the world. Tofig A. Al-Dhubaib, a senior petroleum engineering systems consultant in the Petroleum Engineering Applications Services Department, led the presentation, “Overview of Saudi Aramco's Intelligent Fields Program,” and was joined by co-presenter Emad A. Elrafie, supervisor of Reservoir Simulation Studies. The strategic goal of real-time asset management, having knowledge of any reservoir throughout the Kingdom and being able to interact with it from a remote center at the company's headquarters, has been under way for several years at Saudi Aramco. With rapid advancements in subsurface and surface technologies, the company is able to stream live field data to visualization and collaborative centers, where it is monitored to improve drilling, reservoir management and production operations strategies. --MORE
