Al-Quds, Ramadan 07, 1431 / Aug. 17, 2010, SPA -- A Palestinian man was shot after barricading himself inside the Turkish embassy on Tuesday evening, dpa quoted a police spokesman as saying. Local media reported that the man who was seeking political asylum in Turkey had been injured by a shot to the leg by Turkish security personnel. He was later brought to hospital under police escort, the reports said. Israeli radio said the man was a former Israeli collaborator who complained he was no longer wanted by Israel and felt persecuted by Palestinian authorities. The 32-year-old man also was reported to have mental health issues and had briefly held the Turkish consul and his wife hostage inside the building. The couple was later able to leave the building. Relations between Turkey and Israel have been strained since the 2008-09 Gaza war and deteriorated further following an Israeli military raid on a Turkish aid ship that left nine people dead. -- SPA
