A Romanian diplomat was arrested Monday in Moscow for suspected espionage, dpa quoted the Russian intelligence agency FSB as saying. The FSB, which named the diplomat as Gabriel Grecu, said it had arrested him as he attempted to buy military secrets from a Russian citizen. Grecu had worked as the first secretary in the political department of the Romanian embassy, but was actually a member of the Romanian secret service, the FSB said. "Items of spying equipment that fully reveal his hostile activity against Russia have been confiscated from the intelligence officer," the FSB said. The Romanian Foreign Office refused to comment on the case.
