Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani said Saturday that floods had affected 20 million people, up from an earlier UN estimate of 14 million victims. Gilani appealed for international aid, saying that the floods had killed 1,384 people, injured 1,630 and destroyed 730,000 houses. "Torrential rains and devastating floods have made 20 million people homeless, destroyed standing crops and food shops and storages of worth of billions of dollars, washed away bridges, roads, communication and energy networks," the prime minister was quoted as saying by the German Press Agency "DPA".
