The European Union's executive on Wednesday sent 10 million Euros ($13 million) in aid to the victims of flooding in Pakistan, less than two weeks after it donated three times that amount. The floods, the worst in living memory, have killed at least 1,600 people and forced millions from their homes. Earlier on Wednesday, United Nations officials said they plan to launch an appeal for aid. The European Commission has decided to send 10 million euros in emergency aid to help provide essentials such as drinking water, food, shelter, blankets and medical supplies, the Brussels-based body said in a statement quoted by the German Press Agency "DPA". The move comes after the commission on July 30 allocated 30 million Euros to help the victims of internal conflicts. "The scale of the floods ... exceeds by far" the help provided by that donation, and the recipients "need urgent assistance, as they have no more capacities to cope with a reiteration of natural and man-made disasters and are plunged into total despair," the statement said. Over the last year, the Commission's humanitarian aid to Pakistan has topped 111 million Euros.
