India has agreed to loan Bangladesh 1 billion dollars, officials said Saturday. "This one-billion-dollar line of credit is the largest ever given by India to any country," dpa quoted Indian Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee as saying on arriving in Dhaka on Saturday for a four-hour official trip. He added that he was there to witness the signing ceremony of the agreement, the outcome of a decision reached between Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina Wazed in January. The money is to be used to finance infrastructure projects, mainly to upgrade communications between India and Bangladesh, including improvement of railway networks, construction of roads and bridges and building power plants.
