Three policemen were killed in Dagestan on Tuesday, the press service of the republican Interior Ministry told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. "On Tuesday afternoon in Khasavyurt unidentified gunmen shot down two policemen from the mobile police force in Dagestan. The armed attack was committed at the marketplace called Dagestan on the crossroads of the Makhachkala highway and Toturbiyev Street. There were two criminals, who were presumably shooting from a pistol," the press service reported. A Makarov service pistol with two loaded magazines was stolen from the killed policeman. On Tuesday night the deputy chief of the anti-extremism department headquartered in the city of Kizlyar Lieut. Col. Shevket Kudzhayev was killed. "Two unidentified gunmen came at about 9 pm Moscow time to the senior police officer, who was standing at his garage, and gunned him down from a submachine gun at point blank range. He died instantaneously," the press service said. The criminal cases were instituted for an attempt on the life of a law enforcer and the smuggling of weapons and ammunition. The search operation for the criminals is underway.
