The Spanish government on Friday offered to mediate between Venezuela and Colombia after Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez broke off relations with neighbouring Colombia, according to dpa. Spain was willing to join other Ibero-American countries and international forums in attempts to re-establish relations, the foreign ministry said in a press release. Spain expressed "concern" over the rupture and hope that it would be overcome as soon as possible. Chavez announced the severing of ties on Thursday over allegations that Colombian rebels were operating in Venezuela.
