Russian aerospace firm Sukhoi announced today winning an order for 30 of its Superjet-100 planes from the Indonesian carrier Kartika Airlines. The value of the contract was put at 951 million dollars, dpa reported. The Superjet-100 is the first newly-developed passenger plane in Russia since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Sukhoi president Vladimir Prissyashnyuk called the Kartika deal a breakthrough and said he hoped it would pave the way for further sales of the comparatively inexpensive plane in south-eastern Asia. Sukhoi belongs to the Russian state holding company UAC. In the future, Sukhoi hopes to produce up to 70 planes annually at its plant in Komsomolsk, some 7,000 kilometres east of Moscow. Meanwhile the Interfax agency reported that European plane manufactuer Airbus had won an order for 11 of its A330-300 passenger jets from Russian airline Aeroflot. The order, worth 1.01 billion dollars, was reported from the ongoing Farnborough air show outside London. The Airbus planes are due for delivery between 2011 and 2013.
