Turks are evenly divided over a referendum on constitutional reforms, seen as a test of the government's popular support ahead of a national election due next year, an opinion poll showed on Saturday, according to Reuters. Forty percent of voters back the package of legal changes, while 39 percent would say "no" when asked how they will vote in the Sept 12 referendum, said Adil Gur, head of A&G Research. Twenty percent were undecided, he said. The poll surveyed 2,412 people in 33 Turkish provinces before the Constitutional Court ruled on Wednesday that a September 12 referendum could go forward, although it struck down two of the changes. Gur said the poll result is similar to those that emerged from three previous surveys A&G has conducted since March, when the government introduced the package of reforms. Changes in the number of "yes" and "no" votes have varied 1.5 to 2 percentage points, which falls within the margin of error, he said. -- SPA
