Polish presidential candidate Jaroslaw Kaczynski has gained ground over his opponent during the last debate before this weekend's runoff election, an online opinion poll said Thursday, according to dpa. Some 37 per cent of respondents thought Kaczynski, of the right-wing Law and Justice party, won Wednesday night's debate, according to a survey of some 299,000 respondents on the website of broadcaster TVN 24. However, most respondents thought that Bronislaw Komorowski, of the centre-right Civic Platform party, won both Wednesday's debate and the first debate this past Sunday. According to the poll, 54 per cent thought Komorowski won Wednesday's debate, while 63 per cent thought he won Sunday's The result was an improvement for Kaczynski of some 10 percentage points, compared to his performance in a debate Sunday, when some 27 per cent thought he was the victor. Analysts said Kaczynski was better-prepared Wednesday and employed more offensive tactics. "He was more active and better prepared," said the Wyborcza, Poland's biggest daily. "His gestures were livelier, he tried to smile." Komorowski said his opponent Kaczynski was "in better condition and the discussion was more interesting." The debate Wednesday was more interesting, but ultimately it will not change the results of the election this weekend, said the Rzeczpospolita daily.
