A car carrying Joachim Gauck, 70, who is currently canvassing for votes for president of Germany, was in collision Wednesday with a cyclist in the southern city of Munich, according to dpa. The car, driven by a chauffeur employed at the Bavarian state parliament, was taking Gauck to Munich Airport after he had met state legislators. Germany's 1,244-person federal assembly is to elect a president on June 30 with Gauck widely predicted to be runner-up. The cyclist, who was pushed onto the bonnet and windscreen of the government car by the force of the collision and then hurled 6 metres, was taken unconscious and in critical condition to an area hospital, police said. Gauck and the chauffeur were unharmed. -- SPA
