The ongoing unrest in southern Kyrgyzstan is deeply worrying, the foreign ministers of Germany and Sweden said today after a meeting in the Swedish capital, Stockholm, according to dpa. The situation in southern Kyrgyzstan is "exceedingly worrying," Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt told reporters, citing recent reports of some 2,000 dead and around 400,000 refugees. "This is a very fragile part of the wold, and a very fragile part of Central Asia," he said, adding it was necessary to "stabilise the situation" as soon as possible. Bildt said it was important to restore confidence soon, in order to ensure the return of refugees, and avert a situation that "breeds resentment for years to come." "We are very concerned," German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle said meanwhile. He highlighted the need to protect refugees and stabilise the situation "in the whole region."
