At least two soldiers and 18 Taliban militants were killed on Sunday in various clashes, but also in an accidental blast, across three districts of Pakistan's restive north-west, security officials said. Around a dozen Taliban rebels attacked a military checkpoint in the tribal district of South Waziristan with assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades, killing one soldier and injuring two more, the German Press Agency "DPA" reported. An intelligence official said the troops repulsed the attack "successfully" and killed one of the "terrorists" and wounded four more. "Some other attackers managed to flee," said the official.
