BP Plc said on Wednesday that its containment cap system captured 10,440 barrels of oil on Tuesday, a lower collection rate than usual because of a fire-induced five-hour shutdown. The cap had been capturing more than 15,000 barrels a day since June 8. The system was shut down Tuesday morning when a lightning strike caused a fire at the top of a derrick on the vessel collecting the oil, Reuters reported. Overall, the system has collected 160,400 barrels of oil since it was installed June 3. BP on Wednesday started up a second containment system to increase the collection rate to up to 28,000 barrels a day from 18,000 barrels a day.
