The U.N.'s top human rights official on Monday announced the members of a committee to monitor Israeli and Palestinian investigations into violations of international and humanitarian law during last winter's Gaza conflict. The U.N. General Assembly in February called on both sides to conduct credible investigations into the violations laid out in the Goldstone report, which include allegations of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity. The three-member committee "will focus on the need to ensure accountability for all violations of international humanitarian and international human rights laws during the Gaza conflict in order to prevent impunity, assure justice, deter further violations and promote peace," U.N. Human Rights Commissioner Navi Pillay said Monday in Geneva.
