Expensive children's prams have become the latest object of desire for quick-fingered thieves in Berlin, dpa cited police as saying today. "For a while now, we have observed a rise in pram thefts," a city policeman said, confirming media reports. The worst affected areas were Berlin's child-friendly Prenzlauer Berg area, but children's push chairs were also disappearing in the well-heeled Mitte district and in up-and-coming Friedrichshain, police said. "They are being stolen from apartment hallways and anywhere they are easily accessible," the spokesman added. Children's prams can cost upward of 500 euros (615 dollars).
