The European Union and the Latin American trade bloc Mercosur will relaunch negotiations about a free trade deal that had stalled since 2004, dpa cited Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero as announcing today. The two blocs met in Madrid ahead of an EU-Latin America summit. Mercosur comprises Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay. An association agreement with Mercosur had been opposed by France and nine other EU countries, which feared that Latin American meat imports would harm European farmers.
