A man convicted in the 2007 slaying of British student Meredith Kercher has appealed his conviction to Italy's highest criminal court, according to AP. Rudy Hermann Guede of the Ivory Coast has been convicted of sexual assault and murder. An appeals court in December upheld a lower court's conviction and sentenced him to 16 years in prison. Guede's lawyer Nicodemo Gentile said Friday that no date for the appeal before the Court of Cassation has been set. Gentile said Guede wants to prove his innocence. He has admitted being in the house the night of the murder but denied killing Kercher. American student Amanda Knox and Knox's former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito have also been convicted of murder. Knox received 26 years in prison; Sollecito, 25. They deny wrongdoing.
