based Al-Yaum, in an editorial entitled "Food Bank" said the recent statistics disclosed the fact that the Saudi families allocate about 45 percent of their income for food and food materials, which means that a great part, in the light of the consultative nature of the Saudi society, goes to garbage-barrels. "In the light of the steady increase in prices of food materials, a large amount of money will be wasted. We need to confess that the efforts of the government are not enough to meet the requirements of poor families and the charitable societies are incapable of meeting the requirements of these poor families, so it is high time to search for other solutions," the daily elaborated. The idea of the "Food Bank " announced by certain economic quarters in the Eastern Province, which has proved success in Egypt, may be a successful solution. "The idea is summarized in enhancing voluntary works and benefiting from the remains of food which are thrown after parties, and distributing them to poor and needy people. It will not be a shameful matter if we benefit from the experiences of others, but it will be shameful to watch large quantities of food in garbage-barrels at a time when some people spend their night-hours with empty stomachs.
