Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was scheduled to travel to Kharkiv on Wednesday to sign a nuclear energy agreement with his Ukrainian counterpart President Viktor Yanukovych. The two presidents were set to sign a contract making the Russian state-run energy company Atomstroieksport general contractor for the construction of a pair of nuclear reactors in the Ukrainian city Khmelnitsky, the Interfax news agency reported. Atomstroieksport will oversee the installation and bringing into operation of two modernised VVER-1000 reactors in the central Ukrainian city, with a 2016 planned on-line date. Ukraine Prime Minister Mykola Azarov, Kiev's top negotiator in the contract talks, said the upcoming nuclear power agreement would mark a "turnabout" in Russia-Ukraine relations, Channel 5 TV reported.
