Restrictions on air travel in Europe are expected to ease from 0600 GMT on Tuesday, the European Union's transport commissioner Siim Kallas said in Brussels, according to dpa. "From tomorrow morning we should see progressively more planes in Europe's skies," Kallas told a news conference on Monday, at the end of teleconference talks between EU transport ministers. Air travel in Europe has been severely disrupted since Thursday, as a volcanic ash cloud from Iceland spreading over Europe lead to airspace being closed. "I am pleased we have made real progress today," Kallas said, stressing the "good news" for stranded passengers and struggling airlines.
